MEDIC FIRST AIDŽ Introduces Versatile CPR Program

EUGENE, OR - September 17, 2003 - Medic First Aid International announces the release of CarePlus CPRTM, a community-focused, comprehensive training program in emergency resuscitation skills for the lay rescuer. This versatile program is the perfect complement to the Medic First Aid Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Supplement. It can also combine with the Medic First Aid Emergency Care program to create a lay rescuer CPR/first aid training class.

"As the first training company to combine CPR and first aid into a single-day program, we recognized the need for a CPR program geared toward community and non-regulated training," said Bill Clendenen, president of Medic First Aid. "We're also excited about the versatility of the CarePlus CPR program. Growing public awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and the positive results of early defibrillation by bystanders with AEDs pointed to the need for a flexible CPR program that complements an AED training program."

SCA is one the leading causes of death in the United States, occurring every two minutes and resulting in over 250,000 deaths a year. It is unpredictable, often striking without warning, even if no symptoms were present. And SCA doesn't discriminate across age, sex, race, or socioeconomic class.

CarePlus CPR will teach students how to perform resuscitation for patients who are victims of SCA as well as those who are unresponsive, in respiratory arrest, or choking. The same priorities of care and approach to the patient used by professional emergency care providers are taught to students of all ages. Two optional segments-"Control of Bleeding" and "Management of Shock"-are also available.

Research clearly points to the need for early defibrillation by a bystander as soon as possible. In response, the AED market has boomed. According to William Rowe, paramedic, and manager of training programs at Medic First Aid, "CarePlus CPR was intentionally designed to be combined with our defibrillation program and provide a training solution that matches today's resuscitation technology."

Two course options are available, allowing Facilitators to adapt the program to fit any classroom environment. One course option covers just adult skill training for patients over eight years of age. The second option covers adult, child, and infant care. The video package features two videos, one for each course option. CarePlus CPR also marks the debut of several design enhancements to the Medic First Aid program materials. New design features include smaller-sized, more durable Student Guides, as well as Successful Completion Cards and Certificates that are now bound into the Student Guides.

Current Medic First Aid Facilitators can apply to teach CarePlus CPR immediately. Instructors from other training programs can easily become a CarePlus CPR Facilitator by completing the Medic First Aid Facilitator Self-Study program. Applicants must have previous training in adult, child, and infant CPR skills to apply.

CarePlus CPR will be available for purchase October 1. To preorder, or for further information call a Client Services representative at 800-800-7099.
