Frequently Asked Questions
|
| What is Medic First
Aid?
MEDIC FIRST AID is a family of first
aid and CPR training programs produced by MEDIC FIRST AID
International, Inc.
|
 |
| How long has
MEDIC FIRST AID been around?
The MEDIC FIRST AID Basic program
was introduced in 1980. Since that time, the family of programs
has expanded (see Family
of Programs) and is being used in 80 countries worldwide.
|
 |
| Does MEDIC
FIRST AID meet ARC or AHA standards?
Contrary to popular belief, the
American Red Cross does not establish first aid practice
or training program guidelines. All first aid training programs,
including the ARC, must conform program content to the current
state of medical knowledge as evidenced by published medical
texts and journals. MEDIC FIRST AID meets the guidelines
for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac
Care and has been approved by numerous regulatory bodies.
|
 |
| Does the MEDIC
FIRST AID course meet Class C requirements?
The MEDIC FIRST AID Basic Life Support
for Professionals program is comparable to the Class C course.
|
 |
| As a MEDIC
FIRST AID Instructor, can I train outside my company? For
profit? Community service?
Corporate Facilitators may offer
community service training with approval of their company
and MEDIC FIRST AID International.
Community service training is offered
free of charge with the exception of recovery of the cost
of the training packs. Corporate Facilitators do not train
outside the company for profit.
|
 |
| Do you sell First
Aid and Medical Supplies?
The only first aid or medical supplies
sold are barrier products and manikins.
|
 |
| Do I have
to be trained by MEDIC FIRST AID to buy the products?
MEDIC FIRST AID training programs
are available only to certified MEDIC FIRST AID Facilitators.
Barrier products and manikins can be purchased by the general
public.
|
 |
| What are
barrier packs?
Barrier packs include items such
as latex gloves and mouth shields for protection against
bloodborne pathogens.
|
 |
| Will the
Good Samaritan law cover me if I assist someone who is injured?
The law states that a person offering
aid must do so in a reasonable and prudent manner within
that person's level of skill. Once a person has commenced
care, the law states that care must continue until other
help is obtained or until the rescuer has reached a level
of exhaustion that makes continuing impossible. A lay rescuer
will be within the bounds of the law if the care offered
is reasonable and prudent given the situation.
|
 |
| How often do
you have to be retrained / how long is a MEDIC FIRST AID card
good for?
The MEDIC FIRST AID card is good
for two years unless you're being trained to meet a specific
requirement which requires more frequent training.

| Where are you
located?
MEDIC FIRST AID's headquarters are
located in Eugene, Oregon in the heart of the Willamette
Valley, about two hour's drive south of Portland.
|
 |
| What supplies
do I need to get started?
A MEDIC FIRST AID Facilitator will
need a training program, manikins, an Instructor guide,
and student packs to conduct a class.
|
 |
| Can I rent/lease
a program?
At this time, a special leasing
program is available only to public schools. You can find
out more about this program from Client Service Representative
Jennifer Toso at 1.800.800.7099.
|
 |
| How can
I find out where the nearest Instructor class is?
Instructor classes are held monthly
at MEDIC FIRST AID's headquarters in Eugene, Oregon. To
see the class schedule, look at MEDIC FIRST AID news. Other
classes are held throughout the country. To find out where
the nearest class is, call MEDIC FIRST AID at 1.800.800.7099.
|
 |
| Why don't you
have separate First Aid and CPR classes?
Total patient care is the goal of
any MEDIC FIRST AID program. Training in two separate programs
could cause confusion in an actual emergency. Priority of
care and circle of care include assessment of airway, breathing
and circulation; when confronted with an emergency a rescuer
should have basic knowledge of all possibilities. To teach
one segment without the other would be short-changing the
student.
|
 |
| What is the
International Registry?
The International Registry is a
single database that stores information on all Facilitators.
Current information is available in a single location, not
distributed by chapters as in other training organizations.
This allows for quality control and the ability to access
Facilitator information at any time.
